Hi Trypod , although you say depends who you are with I still thought you needed a valid calibration cert for joining a part p scheme . I have a megger 1553 and I'm thinking of getting it re calibrated due to cert running out . looking to sign up with elecsa.

Calibration certificates do not run out

When you buy a new meter from Megger it may have been calibrated three months before you got it there is a box on their certificated for activation date.

Most suppliers recommend 12 months however it may only have been used five times in that time that is why you need to keep records of checks and use.

Eh tell me if I'm wrong but do you still not need to calibrate your multlifunction tester or seperate's and have a valid certificate each year?

I thought you had to have annual calibrations done with any scheme, the check boxes etc are just a good way to verify the consistancy of your readings throughout the year.

I recently joined Napit and the inspector said that as long as we had a method in place for proving the readings were consistant ie check box / dedicated socket on a monthly basis then there was no need to have the meter recalibrated. He added that when the readings start to differ thats when calibration is needed.

in your post to everyone about the calibration cert my cert was dated jan2009 and i only got the megger in august. i have not filled in the date on the cert for activation date as since the course i have not used it instructor on the course told us when we start self employed or working and started to use it then fill in the activation date is this correct.this is why i was asking about the testing calibration on a known socket and checkbox to prove calibration should i fill in the date from the course or when i get going sorry mate if i asking stupid questions just want to get everything right i have a socket near c.c.u. so i will use this for testing purposes is that ok cheers mate

Date of activation I would put the date you start using it for work

i was thinking as its a year ago since it was calibrated as new that i would have to get it re-calibrated so as soon as i start to use it for work i will date it thanks kev do the calcards come with idiot proof instructions haha cheers

dufjax are the cal cards any good and are they easy to use mate

I've no idea I keep meaning to buy one.

I think I also read somewhere that Elecsa will accept you using the Cal Card (and recording the values, once a month) instead of getting your tester calibrated.
