Hi all,

i am a qualified electrician - level 2, level 3, part p, relevant regs, 2391. i have worked for the past few years for a large electrical firm, so everything was covered by them. i am thinking about starting my own limited company and working for myself. i was curious about electrical testing - is it fine to carry out electrical testing if you are not a member of a government scheme? as i am currently not.

in one word, yes. with 2391, you should be more than competent. your only obstacle would be with remedial works following your testing. some is notifiable. also, if testing for councils and some other organisations, they specifically insist on niceic membership.

This has been covered in numerous threads, use the search function. If you are serious about going SE the peruse the business section got pointers on the financial and business matters.
