Hi all, wondered if someone could clarify

I am an improver, just completed 2365 Level 3 Diploma, hold 18th edition qualification and got a few years experience, mainly in domestic.

Regarding the topic of minor works, I have always understood that with my qualifications and experience such as they are, that as long as the work I am undertaking meets the requirements of BS7671, then I can conduct minor works, as long as I do the required testing thereafter to enable completion of a MEIWC and ensure all results are within permissible parameters.

However, I just come across this page on Sparky Facts, which states that one needs to be Part P or Certification Body registered in order to carry out minor works.

Could someone please confirm that Sparky Facts has got it wrong here? I'm sure it does clarify in the regs somewhere, don't have my book with me right now and honestly can't remember what regs says about this exactly. But when I studied it for the exam, I know that if it had said that electrical improvers in my position were not allowed to conduct minor works, that would have made me sit up and take notice. I do not recall coming across anything like that. Rather I have a vague recollection of reading something reassuring, to the effect that, as long as the correct procedures and certificate were carried out / completed, then all is fine for someone in my position to be doing this.

Addendum - Having just now been able to locate a copy of the template MEIWC contained in Appendix 6 of the regs (18th Edition, Amendment 2), and comparing it to the green copy PDF template MEIWC on the Sparky Facts website, I notice that whereas the Sparky Facts one has a registration number field at the bottom, and clearly states 'The registration number is essential information' No such field exists on the regs version of the MEIWC.

You missed a “not” there at the end, Brian?

I don’t think you can become “part p registered”
Being part of a scheme allows you to notify building control ie. One leads to the other.

I don't think he did. ( No scam membership is required)

To become Part P registered, you'll need to demonstrate competence through qualifications, experience, and by joining a recognised scheme

You don't need to be part of a scheme to notify building control.

You don't need to be in a scheme to notify building Control, but it's so expensive and the inspector who come out did not test anything.
