No…. The flex wasn’t wrapped like suggested… there are some parts intact, and complete without the lines that wrapping would show.

the white string cord inside the flex was used as a strain relief at the motor end.
the flex just passed through a grommit, and two of the strings were tied round a bit of plastic to stop it falling back out.
I replaced it with a stuffing gland.
So you left the cable as then? ?

And the string idea's innovative, for farmer. Normally, if it works it'll do.......but the longer it works the better. A few repairs, I'd wager.

A machine that's been shearing sheep for more than 50 years must be interesting.

Came across this on another forum - I know nothing about it but it looks interesting (but I would of turned it off before tahing a picture !)

Then there wouldn't be enough light to take a photo!

But I'd be turning the board off before going anywhere near it for sure....

Great Advertisement for the new fandango arc fault circuit intergrated devices
Except that looks like possibly a lighting circuit, which wouldn't need one in the proposed amendment if I recall?

Strange, as in my limited experience of things the only two persistent arcing circuits I have seen were both lights!

Nothing spectacular but the end of wires had fractured and I guess the old 60W bulbs drew enough current to keep a stable small arc going, you could here a slight noise and the last cm or so of the insulation was toast and the end of conductor oddly pointed.

I guess the actual power of such a small current-limited arc was small enough that it did not trigger anything more serious like a fire in nearby materials.

Not in CU, of course, but shower switches, especially pulls, always seem pretty regular when it comes to arcing/burning.
Fishy smells in bathrooms quite often get misconstrued, I suppose. ?

Kitchen fitter strikes again...

socket1.jpgsocket 2.jpgsocket3.jpg

No idea what makes someone think - I don't need to connect this earth to the terminal on this socket, so it will be safer if I CUT IT BACK.....

Maybe confused by the original socket being earthed by conduit, but ffs....

I regularly come across builders wiring with the cpc cut off ,

my only thinking is they think the bare wire is some sort of ‘spare’ wire
It’s the bit they put in for stripping the sheath. Serves no other purpose, if it did the manufacturer would insulate it like the other two.

Better put a smiley in here in case someone thinks I’m being serious :p

Brain dead to$$ers who think they know it all.........not in a shower, is it? ?
Thankfully 'only' in a kitchen.... This has been the worst EICR of the crop, but I'm finally more or less there, thank god....

That really is a special kind of incompetence.

Ive just started on a kitchen refurb, and knocking the tiles off found 2 x covered over old sockets with live joints just taped up. But at least the cpc was connected!

'No earth sleeving handy so what's the point of it?'
