Hi all, apologies for not contributing recently. I have to qualify this by saying that this is more of a thought exercise as I'm having a few issues trying to visualise what is in effect, but I'll start with a question.

A friend of mine is on an E7 tariff w/ the supply to the FCU's feeding the storage heaters and 'apparently' the bottom element of the immersion via the second bank of a split load board. Is it correct to say that there should be two supplies to the immersion heater, one that feeds the 'boost' circuit / the top element, and another from this second bank that feeds the 'off peak' circuit / the bottom element? I don't believe that is the case, but some clarity / confirmation would be useful. I'll try and take the camera this evening, as a picture speaks...

This is the heater control unit installed -

I'd also be grateful for any installation diagrams / guidance notes on what components are required to enable correct operation via an E7 / E10 tariff and how they are interconnected. Granted it all appears to take place at the intake position, and so I'd assume is not within the jurisdiction of a domestic electrician.

Now, among a few other observations, does the location of the CCU inside and to the rear of the kitchen cabinet not fly in the face of Reg 529.3, relating to 'safe and adequate access of all parts of a wiring system which may requirement maintenance.'

As they say, a picture paints...

Just looking for a bit of insight and clarity.

Just for a cheap bump, and to pull focus to the question I asked.

How you doing mate, another trainee here. Yes, you're right there should be two supplies. Like you said, E7 for normal use and the boost element switch will have a permanent supply.

Thanks for the response, Resu. I'm not convinced that with the timer it requires two supplies; the Horstmann appears to have been retro-fitted but all evidence certainly supports the idea that it was once as you describe.

When I'm next across I'll get some more pictures. Thanks for the input.
