Hi all

Called to do an EICR on a property 4 studio flats / bedsits within a single house.
The t&e sub main to each flat runs within the fabric of the building and has a 30mA RCD at its distribution point...assuming this was an add on to the original installation.

Each flat has a RCD main switch consumer unit also with a 30mA .. hence no discrimination between the 2.

The consumer units for each flat are by the flat front door and the communal halls are lit by the landlords supply and emergency lighting.

What would you code for no discrimination between RCD's ..? .. my feeling is its c3 at the most as i cant see its causing any danger .. the distribution RCD's are on the ground floor and are accessible to be reset if required .. if the flat occupier can get to the flat consumer unit to reset that RCD they can exit the flat door into a lit corridor to reset the distribution RCD ..

All thoughts gratefully accepted

cheers

Vito

That means they can also turn off a neighbour that they don’t get along with.

The distribution T&E only requires rcd protection if buried less than 50mm. If it’s deeper than that, or clipped surface, or in trunking where it’s visible, then it doesn’t need rcd.

They would be able to switch off a neighbor with a main switch or mcb ! .. so thats not an issue.

Sub mains are looking chased in .. so likely less than 50mm deep .

I was looking for advice on a eicr code.!
