Hi, ive just installed an electric shower at work (industrial site) its a 10kw shower and ive used 10mm cable with an RCD for protection. Another electrician on site has passed comment that you need to install the same size earth as the live and neutral? ive never heard of this but it maybe a requirement of the new regs?

does anyone know this answer?

Cheers Dave

It's not needed to be the same size, providing that by Adibiatic equation proves the smaller CPC will be sufficient

Did he tell you why it needed to be the same size? Are you working to a set of reguations outside of the BS 7671-2008, that specifies all CPC's need to be the same size as the live condutors?

Seems like you never used T+E but singles, but the CPC for a T+E is 6mm

thanx for that Malcolm, yes its installed with T+E and like you have confirmed i always thought the CPC in T+E as been installed with the Regs in mind was sufficient as a CPC. ive never come across installing a same size earth as the live + neutral when using T+E, but yes when using singles all conductors tend to be the same size.

cheers Dave

I would ask him he if wants to do the job, No I thought not. Why is everybody an expert when looking at other peoples work.

Ask him to explain the reason why? Probably heard it of a mate who's mate is an NIC electrician lol

Sounds like the sort of bloke who would send you to the stores for tartan paint.
Just thought is he getting confused with exporting PME, is the shower in a seperate building to the point of supply?
