Emergency Lighting Mains Indication Light

Good morning all,
I have a question about emergency lighting and the requirement of an indicator light stating that it is on mains power and charging.
The centre that I work at has been refurbed and new LED type emergency lights installed at very high level, I don't know what MCB's control them and I noticed that they don't have a L.E.D. indicator showing that they are on mains power.
My question is, do they have to have an indication that they are on mains power and therefore charging? if so where will I find the regulations relating to this?

BS5266 states that all lights must conform to BS 60589-2-22.

Part of that Standard is that each emergency luminaire must have a green LED indicating charge status.

This would only apply to self-contained emergency fittings however. Clearly a central battery system would not have a charge indicator at every light fitting.

Thanks Essex for very quick reply, the fittings are self contained and as far as I can see from the ground, don't have a LED indication.

mayby they're too high up to see. try with the main lights off at night. try not to fall over the works cat.

As said see if you can see them in the dark. Have you done a test with the key switch to see if they come on? I wonder if the batteries have been connected.

I've found a key switch in the wrong position more than once.

Hi Strima, sorry for long time to reply. They don’t have key switches. I have to switch the power off on the nearest light circuit with the mcb. I still not seen an LED indicator

Sometimes the LED indicator can be hard to see even a couple of feet above your head if it is not in the holder properly or has a poor light output

So does the emergency lighting come on then when you switched off the mcb?
