hi guys,
can some body tell me how to test a metal halide so i can find out what part of it is not working.
thanks i have no lamp for it either so would i get voltage at the lamp pins

I would not advise sticking your probes on the lamp holder pins...you may find a very high voltage present and your tester will commit harry carry very quickly....also may injure yourself to boot. Can you try old lamp in another fitting which you know works...or swap a working lamp for your dodgy one.
If not try this......Troubleshooting

Well the first thing you do is get a lamp and put a new lamp in ,there are some things to look out for check the end caps make sure they are in good condition , but the most likley thing to have failed is the ignitor , and one occasions the ballast , but you know if the ballast has gone as they normally go with a bang , oh and the other thing to check is the fuse ,but as has been said DO NOT stick your prods in there as the volatges exceed 3000 volts
