Discuss filing a complaint with NICEIC - is it worth the bother? in the Certification NICEIC, NAPIT, Stroma, BECSA Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

Given the often crap grommet strip that these manufacturers provide with their metal consumer units, its no wonder some may resort to doing what is shown in the picture
Its advisable to always have some decent strip in the tool bag to compensate for a product not fit for purpose

The electrician could also rightly disclaim any more responsibility for that consumer unit

Faults that have or may occur leaves the Kitchen fitter with that responsibility
He altered the location,he re-fixed,he disturbed dressed cables,he may have disturbed the grommet,he was the last person to work on the consumer unit

Shame theres sooo much NICEIC battering going on :(

If he's an Approved Contractor he HAS to have a formal complaints procedure. Don't know if it applies to the 'Domestic Installer' scheme. Normally it is put your complaint in writing to him. If he fails to fix the problem you can complain to the NICEIC. If they agree with you then they can have the work rectified under their Platinum promise scheme upto a value of (I think) £25,000. Basically, if an Approved Contractor the NICEIC guarantee his work.

I don't know if it is still the same with NICEIC when registering online for building control it used to show fee plus I think it was £1.50 insurance for insurance scheme.
