Gold card spark who has now switched to an office role and I'm looking to progress my career by gaining knowledge of related systems etc and Fire Alarms are a big part of the work that we have coming in. Looking to get a feel for the work and not be a pen pusher who doesn't appreciate what I'm pricing.

If you are working for a company involved in fire alarm installation can you not go on the tools for a week or 2 to gain some experience

They don't want me to as it looks unprofessional having office staff on the tools, asif we don't have the resources.

You are clearly working for a company that has little or no vision IMO, CPD is a big thing these days and getting on the tools for a day or 2 a week for a month would enhance your ability to more accurately do your desk job and probably benefit the company and at least you won't have your head turned working for other companies who may try to poach you

That’s a bit short sighted from your employer, I manage a fire and security business and quite often go out with the lads for a day on the tools, our clients appreciate it and see it as a positive, not only does it show that we wouldn’t ask the guys to do something we wouldn’t but it also show us taking an active role in the installation works
