Hey folks
Apologies if my question is too basic. I am an Electrical Engineer but do not work in the field. I am looking for feedback to ensure safety.
I have a dimmable floor lamp that uses Halogen lights. It takes 300 Watts or 500 Watts Halogen lights that run on 110Volts
The dimmer stopped working.
I removed the dimming circuit which had a knob and a variable resistor (I am guessing) and I simply replaced the dimming circuit as follows:
I connected the neutral wire as before.
I connected the live wire (bypassed the previous dimming circuit) HOWEVER I added a 3 amp 250VAC glass fuse to the live wire using connectors rated for 12 Gage wires and maximum of 600VAC.
I am using 300 Watts Halogen Light.
I live in Canada the voltage is 110V
The light is on for couple hours no issues.
The wires and internal parts of the lamp are all supposed to handle the 500 Watts light (the chord is 18AWG x2C 105°C). So my reasoning is: by limiting the current flow to 3amps at all times (maximum 360 Watts); my new circuit is 100% safe.
Am I safe to assume a short circuit cannot happen ? Is there anything I forgot to worry about?
Thank you
