fluke t120

i have a fluke t120 voltage indicator that i only bought a month ago. if i test something that is still live it trips the RCD. is it supposed to do this or if not has anyone else had tis problem

never had this problem and ive owned one for years now dont mean to sound stupid but have you got it set at the right setting ie volts when checking for voltage

A T120 is a voltage tester and that's all mate.What other settings have you got on your's

thats what i thought to. i figured it out though. it says in the manual that it has can trip the rcd if the probes are not placed on the terminals within 5 secs of each other. i think thats what was happening anyway

Is it when you test between live and earth or live and neutral?

thefluke testers can be used as a positive test only, so i would say that when you are making a test while placing the posative on the lo side of the mcb, you are putting the negative lead on the nutral block for the opposite side of the split load, hence the trip

For voltage tests (L towards PE) in systems with RCD devices, the RCD may be
triggered. To avoid RCD tripping first test between L and N (approx. 5s). Immediately
afterwards testing L towards PE can be carried out without RCD tripping (not T140
VDE)

Get the instructions from Fluke website if you havent got any.

I have the T100 (same inst manual for all models) and it says, when testing voltage, test between L&N for a few seconds before testing L&E, this will prevent the RCD tripping. It is words to that effect anyway.
