Hi Mike.

With the fuse finder, if for instance you went to do a job on a large installation with numerous fuses and DB's and the job was say to install an extra socket onto an existing circuit, to find out which circuit you need to isolate simply plug in the fuse finder to that socket then go to the relevant DB with the reciever and hold it on each fuse until it lights up/beeps telling you that this is the fuse for your particular circuit. Handy if there is no labelling of the DB.

Obviously you can use it on lighting circuits, sub-mains etc by swapping the kettle lead for the DB lead.

Its the same kind of principal with the dead circuit finder, simply plug in or attach the DB lead to the required circuit, this then sends a signal along this circuit which is picked up by the reciever at the other end there by showing you the blown fuse/tripped breaker.

Hope this helps.

thanks for the explanation, one more thing about dead circuit finder, when does it work? i mean if there is a break in a circuit will it work?? does the circuit have to be short circuited to make it work??
I recently had a lighting circuit that was blowing the fuse and i could not identify the right wire for this circuit from the bunch of cables as i discovered after there was a short circuit at the furthest ceiling rose would a dead circuit finder thack this wire in the situation like that?
thanks

one more thing about them? do you really need them and do you use them or thay're just gadgets?

Got to be honest Mike, I think they're a bit gimmicky and I dont have one.

I've heard stories of them being unreliable and suffering from interference from the magnetic field generated by other equipment, so couldn't put all my faith in them anyway.

Cheers.

Agree but i use mine mainly as a keep quiate and be good kids magic wand ! i told them its a taser and when i have it in my hand they listern ! Result !

what do you use instead then, how do you find the right wire form the bunch of wires somewhere far from the consumer unit and far form the ceiling rose, is there any other useful tool for that purpose?
asking my question i did not mean exactly socket and see ones i just gave them as an exampleas, is there any other brand that makes them?
