Just completed a rewire on a old house, when looking at the unit, all the lighting circuits seemed to have 2 fuses per circuit, one live and one for the neutral. i ad heard of this before but never actually seen it, until last week. can any one shed any light on why this was done???

From what i remember is that fused neutrals are now a big no no.

There are huge reasonings as to why they were used, and i believe the most common was back in the day, appliances use to be plugged into the lighting circuit and they were not polarity driven.

Therefore, whichever way the appliance was plugged in, it would be fused.

Im sure maybe another member may have a better explanation than me!

The dreaded "Part P" page 36 states that double pole fusing was removed from the regulations in 1955. I think Jason 6930 is probably right.

It's dangerous because there only one of the fuses will blow unlike the double pole mcb which disconnects both the live and neutral
