We tried a different board this week, branded 'Fusebox',I thought it was ok and my 19 year old son did this one, his first RCBO board, not quite up to old dads neatness but a good effort I think - never as easy to achieve a really tidy result when re-connecting rather than 1st time on brand new cables. :)

Who cut the black insulating tape, Stevie Wonder?

Seriously though, looks good!

Ah yes, well that was to stop the f....ing grommet strip from constantly falling off, needed a bit of an overlap front and back to keep it in place. :) But apart from that, thanks mate. :D

it's never easy to get a board with existing cables neat. that board is a bloody good effort for anyone, let alone a 19 year old.

Done a board swap for my nephew last week.
Was disappointed when I seen he had bought proteus/m2 but I was pleasantly surprised with the product..
The case is not as good as Hager or Wylex but the terminations are good, I prefer the fork style busbar

Good job done there Charlie, on the previous ref to the faulty level, it actually is dodgy. He checked it with my trusty boat level as the board looked well off with the built in bubble central- but most of them are like that. :)

Worth bearing in mind the regs do say an EIC should be produced on completion of a new DB installation, but looking at this standard of work I would not let him any where near test gear, if he is registered report him, guys like this will kill someone!!!

Total MCB rating of 88A on a 63A RCD. Is this still allowed?

A nonsense I agree, but some manufacturers are adamant this is no longer permitted.

Edit: What rating is the cutout fuse?

The regulations now require that the main switch and rccb are protected against overload and that diversity of the final circuits shall not be solely used.
Manufacturers instructions should be followed.
The primary ocpd could be 60/63 amps so it would be acceptable, then again it could be 80/100

That's why Hager is fitting only 100A RCD's in their consumer units now.

Hello,

Had a sparky install a new consumer unit, has it been done correctly. Bare in mind the chap cut corners on other bits of work he was contracted to do.

A right Bogger's muddle. awful, a Plumber was he? cus he aint no Electrician, if he says he is, he want's to give up, and flog his tools, any certificates issued? if so I would love to look at them, was he a member of one of the CPSchemes?

The first guy was a NAPIT member etc, neighbours had used him, said he was a star. As a non sparky, us Joe Bloggs out there are at the professionals mercy, lucky we found a new guy who fixed it all and seems ok.

Its always a sorry tale when work has to be redone and paid for a second time
Poor standards even reflect negatively on the vast majority who do good work and are honest tradesmen

The tale had a happy ending... we found a chap who seemed to know what he was doing. It is a shame, I only noticed something was up when I saw taped up cables in the loft and thought... eh... that doesn't look right.
