Hi all,
Just introducing myself to the forum.
Took the dreaded Part P test and currently a registered "Domestic Installer" here with coming up 15 years experience, and aware enough to know that I still have lots to learn. Internet forums like this are an incredible resource of shared knowledge that really couldn't exist in any other format.
I'm hoping that I can offer advice or experiences where I have the knowledge, while drawing on the knowledge of the more experienced members (or old gits if you prefer) for things that the book doesn't tell you.
I do mostly small domestic work for customers directly, as well as subbing for bathroom fitters and landlord work - and of course the EICRs which are becoming more of an issue of late with the new regulations.
The most recent issue that I've run into that are clearly outside my knowledge are the judging of imperial size cable, particularly in relation to meter tails or Sub Mains to flats. Even when previous certificates exist, it's never clear that they have done much in the way of actual investigation or consideration of suitability going forward.
Given how many houses converted into flats there must be that are still running on fairly ropey mains installations I'm surprised it hasn't become more of an issue, given how keen certain people were to blame fires on the dreaded plastic Consumer Units.
