I've put this in here incase my new employer finds it on the open forum.

How long would you say to complete the below list of jobs?

House is void, back to back, kitchen fitted and tiled, c/u in the cellar opposite end if the house from the kitchen.

Kitchen:- install new cooker circuit, Chase out, take off tiles, cap off, back box + plate.

Spur from cellar a 1 x washer and 1 x fridge. Chase out back box but used trunking to save time.

Replace old rusted db socket back box.

Change 2 x db socket plates.

Change over 4 light fittings (pendants)

Cellar:- Clip all this little lot up to make it look good (photo to come later, but its a fare amount)

Blank off c/u spare mcb's.

(I haven't been asked to dead test new circuit of spurs??? Kitchen fitter/builder was on site taking out 1 unit and replacing when I've done, also with tiles. Oh and I also had to go off to the wholesalers for a reel of 6mm t+e as the other reel wasn't on site ??

What time scale would you lot say? I'll tell you later what they expected. Ps it was very hard red brick for the chasing out.

I would probably price it for 2.5 days round here, only cos at 3 days they'd say i was too expensive.

Sayinthat I know guys who'd do it in a day, rough a fcuk though, but will end up getting it due to the price

tight fisted boss would give you another job for after lunch

The pics above do not show the detail that I have to do before an electrical inspection by the head electrics man from the housing association (and he knows his stuff). In that cellar its a rats nest, I'll sort it out but all of this has ----ed me off a bit. I've got a very good idea what time and price (employed on hourly rate) this would be if it was a private job. Just think now that I'm being used but on the other hand very happy just to have a job.

stepping stone mate, just use it as an income and chase some up mate whilst there. trouble is a lot of the firms are the same bud

They gave me 4 1/2 hours!!! Going back first thing to finish off, should take about 2 hours. Talk about pushing you to work.

Thing is I'm not a cowboy and that is what they want by the looks if things. Yes its contracted housing work but I've still got standards. Is it within the regs? Yes.... is it safe? Yes...... Would I have done that class of work in my house? No, it should have taken 2 days and done better than what it is. That's the frustration kicking in, I don't care if its a council house or a millionaires house. Electrics are electrics and it doesnt care who it for, it shocks. Oh well I'll have a call from the boss in the morning asking why its taken do long. 7 hours total?

Does your new job come with underpants to be worn on the outside Paul? ;-). That's not enough time to do that job justice.

I would have estimated the same as the rest here (2-3days) and left happy, this kind of pressure and get it done anyway attitude from some bosses just breeds bad workmanship and stress.
I could never be happy with this kind of working, don't think any of us could?
I've had many a run in with bosses and workmates in past over how work should be done correctly-hence self-employment and doing things my way and any stress is self inflicted.
As Phil says, do what's best for you.

Good luck.

41/2 hours he's havin a laugh , sounds about right for a big firm thats one of the reasons i started working formy self , a job like this should be done carefully not rushed its when its rushed things go wrong mistakes are made ,and in the long run takes longer im on the same thoughts as big breakfast , but dont fall to pressure whats your boss going to do sack you ,because if he does you have a good case for unfair dismissal

I think their testing me on how much they can get out of me. Eg todays job list and locations....

York (28 miles away)

1. replace shower. Test.
2. Fill in holes in another flat.
3. Shower not working (due to the lack of pressure) nothing to do with the shower but check it anyway.

Leeds (28 miles from York)

Replace shower, test.

Huddersfield + Halifax. (round trip 60 miles.)

Told him that's daft and take it off me. Can't remember the job.

Back to Leeds to replace a shower, pull switch and test. Oh if you've got any time left go back to finish off yesterdays job.

Tomorrow I've been given 6 flats to test after new c/u's fitted in this past week. Just do as many as you can from 8-5. Been given overtime on my first week, not bad and I need the money but 6 in one day? Think I'll need to take my superman outfit with me.

guess they are just wanting the ze and zs done then

Thanks IanStressed out, yes. You can have one if those great days when you've got a lot on but don't hit any snags, they think that happens every day with the amount of work they dish out.I need to see the other sparkys jobs and compare.

By the way the testing tomorrow the electrical superior told me not to do the IR testing because its only about ten years old and he will fill the sheets in on Tuesday??? These boards got changed last week and are all occupied and in use without any tests!! I don't like the way they do things and I'm not going to sign any cert on these conditions.

Sorry about the doubleposts, I'm having trouble with the internet on my phone. Hope it doesn't do it now.
