If you have a fuse box attached to your HVAC system is it necessary to have an off switch? Also what does an arc fault circuit interrupter do, and when is it necessary

No you don’t need an on/off switch. As far as Arc fault interrupter I’m assuming that you are talking about a breaker and it’s required in bedrooms, hallways, living rooms. It’s just an additional protection device for your panel. It operates similar to a GFCI
