PAT testers aren't allowed to remove faceplates, they ain't qualified.
It's all NICEIC BOLLOX!

What qualification do you think you need to remove a faceplate then, or is it a question of 'competence'?
Replacing a faceplate like for like isn't rocket science, and a 2 day course should go some way to prove competence.

You can see why they're offering this course - loads of 'unskilled operatives' have been on here asking what qualifications they need to do basic stuff like this, the NICEIC are responding to demand.

a course such as this should be aimed at DIYers. any Electrical Trainee that has been granted niceic membership should be capable . if not, why in hell's name have niceic classed him as competent?..................£££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££s.

and once having passed that, the opportunity to take the advanced course... how to use power tools without injury. ..... drills..the curly round thing fits into the pointy end of the tool. the trigger turns the curly round thing in order to make holes. the heavy lump under the tool is a battery. it's not a mallet.

I think you'll find this one will be more than £250.

Remember, there is working at heights, safe use of ladders, avoiding trip hazards in occupied areas.
Then many lamps contain hazardous materials that need safe disposal.
I think perhaps the first module will have to be how to conduct a risk assessment.

Joking apart a few years ago I did some volunteer work with the local fire service,the most bizarre thing I ever heard was when they banned the use of stepladders to fit smoke alarms! Now I've been on jobs where the lads have been on an ALP directing water jets into a burning building,smoke and flames all around them,yet they can,t climb a small pair of steps in someones hall to fit a smoke alarm!

So, the sight of me working right at the very full extent on a 14 rung A-Frame + extender (Zarges), with two feet only as I needed both hands in order to over-reach, whilst on uneven open ground, with a couple of hairy arsed riggers footing it.. that wouldn't be looked on favourably either?

Ahhhh, the summer festival season, nothing quite like it. Still feel safer up there than a fully extended tallescope on a stage.

Hypothetically speaking would a 12rung zarge at full extension in triple extension mode held vertical by 8 blokes with me climbing it be frowned upon too????

WTH is your problem? I was perfectly safe up that tree and so was the 1mm flex I used to feed those 20 halides all the way up the trunk.
