London Olympic site

Just wondered what is the situation with the construction for the Olympics?
A few of my mates fear they will be let go soon enough and were going to apply to Electrical firms in England in the hope of working on the Olympic site.
Has work started yet and if so who should these guys be getting in touch with about getting work?

Oh im not sure about having poachers on the plot ive got my ear to the ground so to speak and ill let you know as soon as i hear anything ,
do you specialise in any thing in particular or are you just after general installation work,im fairly sure you will nead 17edition and health and safety certs ,inspection and testing would be a bonus also

I reckon they will struggle. I know of many many firms over here laying people off too so there may well be a glut of sparks.

Not for me I run my own Electrical company,I have a few friends who were considering going over...and hey its not like they are Polish now is it I would imagine we are trained just as highly as you guys !

Yeh! But thats a regional side like Scotland and Wales put in not a club side like England or France puts in?

they're still doing the foundations at the village, im guessing some time early next year there will be some sparky work. Did mcalpine get the main contract?

Thats where you are wrong,They use to be a regional,provincial side but are now a fully fledged Professional club just like any club in England or France...And I also think your wrong about Scotland and Wales do they not have clubs like Edinburgh and Newport Gwent Dragons as far as Im aware they are proper clubs playing in a proper league ie The Magners Celtic League
Anyway we are really going off topic here

Not really did here a rumour that they where trying to get rugby reintroduced into Olympics (Can't have the yanks being the reigning olympic champions can we)

Sorry to interupt the sports chit chat guys, but thought i'd let you know that services are due to start on the stadium in March / April, the main Electrical Contractor won't be looking to seriously increase their labourforce until June / July,

Strong evidence to suggest that the same contractor also has the new westfield shopping centre in Stratford, so they are going to need some serious amounts of labour over there - it's a JIB firm, so Polish will be few and far between.

whats the chances of getting me a start a some sort of manager for westfield.

I was told a few months ago by a spark who have worked for one of the main agencys that are recruiting for the olympic site that they had opened a training school in poland to train up polish sparks to send here for the olympics.

also i seen on the news a few weeks ago that because a certain percentage of workers must come from east london that new polish, latvians etc were going to that borough to registar for national insurance cards so they would be top of the list to get work.

this should probably also be published on jobs for uk workers
