Hi all, I'm a qualified electrical domestic installer just asking some advice I'm wiring a garage the problem ive got is the the swa feeding the garage is coming through the side of garage door but it's cut short there's about 6 inches I have to play with is there any connectors I would be able to get to connect the swa to t&e then the t&e up into a garage cu thanks any ideas would be much appreciated.

Can't use just make it off into a conduit through box , pop some wagos in the box and run a little bit of pipe to the new consumer unit ?

Presumably its not a massive cable in the first place

SWA all the way if you can, then the sun-main supply can be without RCD and the RCD local to the garage for easier reset if desired.

Yes, the T&E is probably exposed (so not needing RCD as not hidden < 50mm from surface) but still a more professional approch to keep same cable in my mind.

Agree , if the run can be all surface clipped then try to keep it all SWA

I would only convert to T&E if the route was really tricky and had to be fished through voids etc

I’d like to know why it’s short…. And why there’s only 6 inches to work on…. Doesn’t give a lot of room to gland off. Hence my earlier suggestion of torpedo joint.

I'm doing this job for a friend she's only moved in so don't no why it's cut short but who ever has been living there has 2.5 t&e connected to the swa and tape up to supply a socket no way its safe so going to wire the whole garage proper just need to get the swa sorted.

There could be all sorts of reasons why it's short. Might be trying to read someone's mind from 30 or 40 years back.
You could well be right with the joint but.........who knows?
Every existing job I'm coming across, these days, seems to have cables lacking length in some way or badly positioned. Just bloody awkward due to bad past work but goodness knows why.
