I'm looking for some Military spec ratchet crimp tools for Insulated Yellow/Black , Red, Blue and non insulated terminal crimps, I'm not sure of manufacturers names as yet , but can anyone suggest a UK supplier which is reasonable as I know these are expensive!
A £20 one will fall apart once it has taken a beating, a £100 jobbie will do the job nicely for many years, a £400 piece of kit will do the job just as well as a £100 one, only the company that sticks their brand on it will have mugged you off for £300 coz they can get away with it
These are the ones I use for insulated baby crimps:
I paid just shy of £100 for them but boy were they worth it!
Just a cheapo £65 made in china jobbie. Does the job fine, I've only worn one set of seals out in two years and it came with a spare set. I'll pay £65 ten times over though and still have spent £1000 under what a top of the range set would cost. Compared to my first set of £20 ratchets that only lasted 6 months, I'd say I'm on the right track
The real difference in pliers is if you go down the route of crimping solid core. I have an £800 set which a German installation engineer left on a commissioning job about 20 years ago and didn't want back. They crimp anything, whereas my workmate at the time had a £30 pair and it wouldn't work at all on solid.
Disclaimer....I hate crimping solid core, and do not wish to reopen this can of worms
I believe in " Zero Option" by Chris Ryan, he used the Knipex ones when he wired up the charges... Although they were carbon fibre and titanium with depleted uranium in the seals
Depends on what these ''military spec crimps'' are going to be used for...
Any internal equipment wiring for the military, will need certified calibrated crimp tools to be used!!
