Just installed 12 light fittings an a new house. Most using several G9 LED lamps. I was surprised to find that there was a distinctly audible hum from many of the fittings. These were ceiling lights consisting of a large thin chromed steel disc fixed via a bracket to the ceiling and supporting closely fitted G9 lampholders.

On a different type of fitting with several pendent G9 lampholders, the noise wasn't audible when fitted with the same lamps.

I'm guessing that these lamps have some vibration in use and that the large metal disc was resonating and amplifying the noise. Has anyone else come across the problem of noisy LED lamps?

The lamps in question were all 'integral LED' 2.5W, 160 lumens.

The LED lamps were bought direct by my customer from the retailer of the fittings and supplied as suitable for replacing the halogen lamps normally fitted.

There was a thread on here maybe a few days or more ago, seemed to be having problems with some noisy LED GU10's IIRC they were 5W osram lamps.

Thanks, just found it. I my case, no dimmers were being used.

mine was a buzz- but swapping to varilight dimmers cured my problem
this sounds (pardon the pun) like more of a 'physical' noise- vibration??....
