Served my time 1968-1973 mainly domestic stuff. Moved into Industrial switchgear and controls, now and then doing the odd rewire for Family. The Local Church have asked me to do some major electrical work which I am happy to do for cost of materials.
Whats the best way of getting a NIECE cert as I am not registered. All work will be done to BS7671 etc

Any ideas on cost approx

Many Thanks

If its a one time only job, and it sounds pretty much to me that it is, why don't you go to your local authority building control (LABC) and speak to them about your plans.

They will visit your premises, you can show them what you intend to do, and they will give you advice.

They will also charge you a fee for Inspect & Test, so that the work can be signed off. My local authority, charges £189 for work that is valued at £2000 or less, if im correct. Obviously the more work, to be done, the higher the fee the LABC will charge.

I dont recommend that you join ANY of the competent persons schemes, because you'll end up paying £400-£500 for the priviledge. If this is going to be your only job this year then it just aint cost effective.

You could say to the Church that you need to involve LABC, tell them about the fee, get them to cough up the dough for the cost of materials and LABC fee and the jobs A GOOD UN...

Why would you need to involve the LABC it's not a domestic building?

Hate to throw a spanner in here but their insurance company may require an NIC certificate.

It may be advisable for them to check first, before you start works.

:)

No involvement with labc althuogh Jason is correct regarding Ins etc
So it might be an idea to go back to plan A and ask LABC to test certify and sign off that everybody's happy and you can be assured that if anything should go wrong ( with ins etc ) you will have complied with all requiorements
