Discuss paint ceiling 1st or drill holes ? in the Lighting Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

Some of the major manufacturers, offer a design service for lighting, Collingwood being one;

There’s arguments for and against painting before or after, don’t think either way is preferable. Using the argument to paint after because you might foul on a joist etc, doesn’t bode well for the expertises of the installer IMO.

Well, despite my inaccurate description initially I still have had a few really useful replies - thanks a lot !

So in summary it seems there are pros/cons of painting first or last and therefore no definite way it should be done.

I'd already designed the lights to be two-way (using Quinetic as advised by the forum in another thread) so have two controllers. Unfortunately they are not dimmable so I think what I'll do is set it up with the non dimmable and then if it looks like it really could benefit from dimmable I just need to swap out the bedroom side controller.

I might be back in a few weeks with an "almost" brand new Quinetic non-dimmable controller at half price if someone wants it. (!)
