I would say I get about 95% of the work I quote for.

Everyone gets charged the same rates regardless if they are a millionaire from Chelsea or someone not so well off.

If someone came to give me a quote for such a small amount it would put me off using them tbh.

Well that's an interesting point the fact that I am charging ....compared with your area may make people be suspect of me...it's not something I'd considered...the only thing I will say is that my rate seems to be normal for the area....interested as to how i might get into this IT cabling if there is so much in it .

If you are running a business in electrical installation works, I just can't fathom how you are only charging £12 an hour to customers. Even more so given you live just outside of the M25.

Thanks for the advice..will have a chat with other electricians i know to get their take on but I think I may be pricing myself out of work at those rates .
What is it exactly that you do, work wise?

I do domestic mainly, some small commercial. My rate is well over double yours, and as I've said before, Northern Ireland has much lower rates of pay that just outside of London. No harm fella, but even round here painters, window cleaners, brickies etc are charging more than you are.

normally i just go around and give them a price for the job...I keep a few bits on the van so I can do the job there and then if they go for the price

If it's small bits and pieces you should quote over the phone.

Get what you think you will need prior to the job. Saves you looking at a job giving a price and walking away complete waste of time if your only getting half the jobs.

Some guys are top gun at third year of their apprenticeship, some could take seven years before they're any good.

That's the most sensible thing I've read in along time.
Due to my unparalleled ability to buy really crap homes surveyed by overpaid chimps, I had a lot of experience on how houses are put together long before I started on-site or at college; that became a useful asset in the real world. By comparison, I met a Level four (yep, 4) on-site who didn't know which way his new drill was supposed to spin.

Beginning to think a useful recruitment question might be "when did you last hang a door in an old house and did it close properly"?
