"I had to make a judgement call either to work in the dark or connect the temporary lamp to the cutout" FFS he had a torch in his pocket.
I do however remember the DNO guys connecting a wolf drill to the incommer with clips to drill holes for the meter board. this was before battery drills though.

Watchdog overplaying it at beginning but the shoddy work and lack of testing + the light bulb with a 400amp ish fuse protection are a classic then to say watchdogs Electrical expert doesn't know what he's talking about is an exiting laugh... Flash!!!!!!!!!!

As in a similar thread regarding this programme;
I was astonished that the so called expert was able to maintain his hidden position, and not put a stop to this idiot going any further once he started poking his lamp direct into the cut-out.
This in my opinion made a normally enjoyable "Rogue Traders" as bad as the perpetrator himself.

Never seen it, but these programmes often highlight " problems" which really are not.
I've seen them pick up on connector blocks, well taped up while obviously it's work in progress. Don't know about you guys but it's common practice some of the dangers they highlight.

I hope you domestic lads get in touch with the program makers about advertising the scams by saying an electrician had to be a member of……… Showing the various scam companies logo’s I’m fairly sure is against the BBC’s charter.

It needs pointing out electricians aren’t required to be in a scam to report jobs to LBC.

One of the advantages of BBCi is you can fast forward through all the rest of the dross in the program.

The fella was a cowboy first and foremost, but this is all just a residual result of the scam training companies. What annoyed me most though was the over representation of the scams on the BBC and secondly, both the scaremongering and lack of knowledge displayed by their so called 'expert'.

Shoddy journalism at best.

Perhaps someone should inform the BBC that there are now more cowboys out there as a direct result of these Scam Providers than there ever were before they got there greedy mitts into our industry.... Safety First, my arse!!

When working for lecky board as a young electrician I went out with a testing inspector. I was gob smacked when he set up a temp light. Lampholder /flex with croc clips directly into cutout.............Job done!

Agree with you Tony, dross and scaremongering didn't see the "Forensic Electrical expert" say anything about locking off the supply when he made such a fuss about dodgy Derek taking the spur unit off the wall with the power still, Ive never done that:sorcerer:

Exactly my thoughts at the time. I wonder what the outcome would have been if the so called electrician got electrocuted?

Calm down, lads,it's an engineered entertainment TV program. It's primary function is not to educate, but to titillate. If you want scary facts, with genuine outcomes, either sit in the public gallery at court,or read a book. Otherwise, this thread will turn into a secretarial mid-morning break chat about pop-idol...:bobby:

I've just watched this and don't agree with you!

Sure the schemes were mentioned but only really in passing.

What was awful was the FCU to 2G socket change in the kitchen!

What I meant by 'over representation' was the constant "must be registered by law, must be registered by law, MUST BE REGISTERED BY LAW!"

The geezer must have said it twenty times!

I still stand by by what I said, the cowboy was one thing, but that 'forensic' electrical expert was a complete useless melt!

I guess you could argue that membership of the IET is registered!

Mixed opinions, he was as rough as he'll, no question about it and seemed to specialise in crappy CED boards!

However where did they get their expert from?, with his crappy plug in martindale and his neon driver!!

And I should be struck off as I quite regularly unscrew fronts while they are live!!>:)

Do you change the back box live?

Pity she got him to switch off, it could have been fun. A bit of editing and it could be tied in to one of these 999 programs they churn out now.

Damn you PEG, shattering our illusions!!!

I watched a C5 prog last night with some Irish geezer going 'undercover'.
What a load of ballcocks!
I gave up after the bloke had opened up a meter and clocked it back, identity for all the world to see, then drove off into the Sheffield sunset.
