Hi guys I have a client whos rcbo keeps tripping, never when I am there and at all times day and night.i have stripped circuit down insulation readings all over 200meg ramp test on rcbo is 21ma . should this be higher or is it ok thanks paul

Ok lets cut to the chase what is it supplying ie a ring, a radial an immersion a cooker ? more infor is required plus your ramp test did you disconnect the circuit ?

ramp it first with all loads disconnected..(you`v done this already)...
then ramp it again with all loads connected....
the difference is leakage....
I would be changing that RCBO n all....
but confirm the leakage present first wont you...
i`v told you how to do it...

I had this situation with one of my clients on a rewire I did.
there is 2 options (which worked for me)
1. offer to PAT Test all appliances within the property
2. Tell them to keep a record of what is plugged in (turned on or off) when the RCBO tripped - or tell them just to call you as soon as it trips and not to touch anything - not even turn it back on!

A wander lead is a handy piece of kit and so is a nice long extension lead.
These 'trips' are trial and error and testing will show zilch a lot of the times.

As the guys have already said..............there are always 'prime suspects' so......................

Plug your nice long extension cable into another cct ( upstairs ring?) then plug in the prime suspect ( freezer?) and see if the rcbo still trips..............etc etc until you find the culprit:)
