Hi
Totally new to the trade, having taken redundancy recently just completed Domestic Installer course (C&G) but in need of real hands on work experience as mostly had theory apart from self testing/certificating.

All I say is well done on passing, but don't get giddy cos this is where the hard work really starts, all while the course provider sits back and counts his money!

So no-ones allowed to even be honest anymore is that what Marvo is saying??..... What a totally shambolic state of affairs where a guy residing thousands of miles away is dictating what UK electricians should accept as bona fide electrical tradesmen... I think he's part of the new Russian programme on the annihilation of free speech...

E54, do your robust views make you a part of the Chinese programme ... ? Marvo is supporting an open forum for the benefit of those like yourself approaching the pinnacle of the world of electrical engineering to the 'babes in arms' who may be only just forming their first words or taking their first steps on a path which may for some in time lead to dizzying heights. I am open to correction, but as I understand it, he does not earn anything for his efforts; he and the other moderators should be supported in walking the 'tightrope' between censorship and maintaining good order.

I too was frustrated by a moderators recent decision to remove what I saw as a perfectly reasonable first response to another member's post. In it, I warned that the lack of information provided would prevent me and others being particularly responsive in the circumstances ... it was mildly abrupt, and late in my drafting I noticed that the OP was a member of the 'Arms' so I then 'poked fun' at myself. The other member, understandably perhaps, clearly misinterpreted my tenor and did not like it. Unfortunately, I do not have a copy of what I wrote and therefore it is difficult to reflect upon the 'error of my ways'; as, for once, my post posted without the rigmarole of having to copy it to another place before logging in again. In hindsight perhaps I should have rewritten it.

Deleting 18/19 posts that contained nothing inflamatory is NOT in the best interest of any forum, it's basically saying that i'm right and all you posters are wrong!! Is this guy's clients going to get any second chances, i think NOT!!

It's happening far too often here, You can't create an electrician of any type or description in 17 days or 5 weeks and that's the top and the bottom of it!! There was no call for any moderation on this thread, members were being truthful and on the whole very polite about things...

I only asked what quals he got from his course, Wasn't rude at all. It's disappointed me a little that my post has been deleted without any explanation, especially when I think it was a valid question for any potential employer, etc.

As with everything there's a time and a place. This was the guys first post on the forum and it was in the New Member Introductions area. Out of the first 11 replies there wasn't a single post with a welcome in it, in fact there was only the first reply that was actually addressed directly at him, the rest were just other members having a discussion between between themselves about him and/or his supposed lack of qualifications.

This forum is open and equally available for anyone working in the electrical industry, there's never been a minimum qualification requirement. You're free to pick and choose which threads you post on and which members you interact with but there's going to be moderation whenever threads go the general direction of making someone feel unwelcome and excluded so maybe just avoid threads where the trend is becoming exclusionary and your post may become collateral damage. I don't have the time nor the inclination to edit posts line by line, remove quotes of deleted posts to try and make the thread readable after moderation so in this case it was easier to just delete the lot and start again. If you feel the moderation is excessive or too severe, too broad, inconsistent, misguided or unfairly targeted you're welcome to take issue with Dan. Calling the staff Nazis or Stazi is exactly the same mentality that's causing the original posts to be deleted.

AND YOU NEED TO REINSTATE THE POSTS THAT WERE CONSTRUCTIVE>

M, thank you for the direction re appeal. I was uncertain as to the options, if any, open to me when my posts are 'moderated'.

Welcome aboard, where did you do your training? how long was the course? what C&G course was it? how old are you? have you got your own tools? have you got your own transport?

We need much more to be able to help, you are one of thousands in the same position, what can you offer a potential employer here to make you stand out from the rest?

Cheers.

Guess I'm a believer in second chances. Why don't you offer the OP a couple of days work experience?
Well there are lots of time served sparks struggling for work in the UK marvo at the moment, things are improving but still not as good as it probably is in South Africa, so I would choose a time served person or youngster first to be honest, the OP will struggle, he will need to provide much more info to anyone who employs people because his OP is very basic and to be honest lacking in substance to be able to feel he is actually sincere about wanting work. when I have applied for work I tend to add much more than "competed domestic installer course"

You're right Adam he did reply twice, once to say he wasn't getting help and then again to say he probably wouldn't come back due to the replies he received.
Well he cannot surely expect to be given work after what he wrote in his OP Glenn, I cannot comment on the rest of the thread as 20 posts were removed so it is almost a thread with no content now.

I do not know what content was removed as, although I may have browsed the thread in its early hours, I came late to it with regard to the later major moderation effort ... and was surprised at the large number of 'unexplained' deletions. In the OP's post he has the humility to recognise his own limitations and the inadequacy of the course he attended and is looking to address both in gaining experience. It is an assumption, of unknown validity, that he has clients at this point.

I agree that it is impossible to take someone with no knowledge of the subject and create an 'electrician' in 17 days or 5 weeks; but what has that got to do with someone who has, I assume, chosen redundancy and completed a C&G course which contains some training of relevance to electrical installation?

For the record Mike, my input politely suggested he should add his location to his profile and look for work as a mate locally. I also suggested "burning bridges" on the forum was not a good idea.

Hardly material that should be deleted IMHO.

How about if he takes the scenic route?

That would be via Geordieland where we have some very nice countryside and some good beaches too and seeing as you sparks are always talking about seals the Farne Islands aren't too far away where there are lots of seals.

where did you fins all those seals? don't tell me you've been cutting them off. :49:

I have just read this thread for the first time and I'm shaking my head in disbelieve on so many points!

The absolute disrespect for a new member!

Disrespect for a Staff member that puts so much free time into this forum to keep it running for all of us!

The majority (not all) of people that posted up that are long time served Electricians showing us all up on a world wide web forum for all to see!!!!

IF YOU NO LONGER ENJOY THIS FORUM AND YOU CAN NOT BE PRODUCTIVE, JUST DONT LOG ON ANY MORE!!!!!!!! Thank you for your time, now log into your Facebook account and take the ---- all you want. It is no longer needed in here.

We are putting our foot down on posts/threads like this regardless of whatever your post count may be.

If you are unhappy with the Staffs actions please e-mail Dan.
