Trying to replace recessed lighting with LEDs. The recessed lights are porcelain and come out of the ceiling easily. The light socket is easy to access. However, can’t figure out how to remove the enclosure so only the wired light socket is remaining. Please see attached photos. Thanks for your suggestions in advance.

what size is the cut-out in the board?

Are you replacing the whole assembly (hopefully yes!)? In which case just cut off the cable with one snip, no need to open anything (power off, of course). And fit some integrated fittings that fit the existing holes.

Or do you plan to change the lampholders in the original housings?

It’s a 6” cut out in diameter. I could keep the fixture and use a screw in LED light into the current socket. But the height/width of the LED light backing doesn’t fit well into the fixture. So I’d like to remove the fixture, but can’t tell how to do that without also replacing the light socket. Hopefully the photos are clear enough to generate some ideas.

Open to any/all suggestions.

I would prefer to replace the whole assembly. Following the recommended “snip”, would I also snip the socket part off of the replacement LED light? Then simply wire nut them together? Also curious about the ground in the photos, and where that would attach to the LED light.
