just want to tell you about a fault i had to fix yesterday.
I was doing a periodic report and when i did the ring final test it showed
a line to earth fault. Old wylex board no rcd. After a few hours of breaking the ring down i found that a screw was touching the line conductor only in a concrete wall. So you might ask how then can there be a line earth fault.

What i discovered was the wall was damp and so the dampness was acting as a conductor carrying current to the nearest earthed metal
socket box in the concrete wall thus giving the earth line fault.

Im quite new to this game and was chuffed to find the fault:d

i had one like that well nearly ,used to work in castles doing the maintainance ,cables were embeded in the joints of the rock covered in cement ,not right realy but with the restrictions of what you could do to install the cables ,very wet and dark lights , one day they lost the lights would stay on for 10 mins then trip the breaker , imagin a castle big walking along the passage ways found the whole wall was live ,hair standing up not because of the haunting past ,lol , could here a slight crackling withing the wall ,yep the cable had burnt out behind the cement and was arching ,so i know how you feel finding a fault like that ,nice one:)
