Firstly if this thread is in the wrong place, please accept my apologies.
I was looking for some feedback from electricians on something which has been quite actively discussed in another forum I frequent. From a company called 'OnSolar' there is an image of what appears to be a BS546 style socket being used to provide a 12V outlet for lighting (the same company seems to sell 12V lamps with traditional lamp bases and seems to concentrate on solar power being used for lighting.
Whilst I can see the advantage in this I can't help think that the connector is inappropriate as it's used as a 230V mains outlet and indeed many homes are now equipped with 5A round pin outlets connected to mains lighting circuits.
Does anyone have any views as to the legality of this ? Or a more appropriate connector perhaps (I come from an entertainment background so my first thought is I would probably be inclined to use a 4 pin XLR or similar to provide an ELV outlet if needed - but I accept it's not a connector commonly used outside a very specific industry)
