Discuss Shower with 2.5mm cable in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

There are a number of sparks here who diss plumbers. I've don the odd outside tap myself, but anything inside my house gets done by a qualified plumber.
No offence Bear, keep up with the tiling, painting (no offence tillers, decorators), but the rest of the stuff can cause damaging water damage or electrocuting/fires if not done professionally.

the above reminds me of a call-out i had once to a shower that the plumber had fitted as a 1 fot 2 replacement. unfotunately for him, the terminals in the new shower were positioned so that the 6mm cable would not reach by 3". he overcame this by twisting a couple of bits of 2.5mm stripped out of some T/E and taped over. i was confronted by a twisted molten mess in the shower and a knackered 30A fuse holder in the old CU. not insinuated that OP would be so daft, but each to his own.

I have a masters Degree in mechanical engineering and level 6 C&G in Hydraulic engineering. Been doing house plumbing on/off for 20 years and fitted bathrooms and kitchens and renovating properties to sell on for the past 15 whilst working offshore lol I'll confess I am more used to 3ph motors star/delta then domestic but the rest I can do with my eyes closed! But I'll be sure to stick to tiling and painting ;-)

Thats just plain bloody stupid. In plumbing I will see runs of 22mm pipe for hot water and someone will size it down to 15mm to fit an isolation valve then open it back up to 22mm just because they did not have a 22mm isolation valve!
In my own house I had 1.5mm T&E running to some spotlights which was fine. Was not until I replaced the insulation I found he had wired them straight into the back of a main 13amp socket in my sons bedroom. The lights were on the 16A MCB in the kitchen someone had tapped into the supply from the cooker to power the under unit lights. I was working offshore and the missus says every time I turn the lights on under the units they pop! Hmm hardly surprising!
Sparky or not doing what I do now some of the things you see from all trades is truly shocking. Appears a case of "out of sight out of mind"
