Morning all,

I am just changing some light fittings in a shower and toilet block at a campsite and wondered the requirements for smoke alarms. It is an independent building with woman one side then men on the other. There are no smokes at present.

I would say the requirements would be minimal for the shower areas themselves, especially if they are just shower/washing facilities in a stand alone building

what about any intake cupboard electrical equiptment, boiler or water heating equiptment locally?

emergency lighting may be required, refer to bs5266 regarding toilet areas is a requirement

With the amount of condensation in shower rooms I don't think smoke detectors would be a good choice you would get too many false alarms

and corrosion of the electronics.

A bit late replying to this...but will give my two pence worth...All down to risk assessment, you would normally not fit any detection within bathroom areas...but on a camping site, or public toilet say a train station, there is a risk of arson. So a possible answer maybe yes, if so normal smokes are no good here, so would suggest marine grade heat detection.
