MEP, I am in touch with SolarEdge and they have now asked for the installers email address which I have now sent them. Presumably they just want his ok.
I have done all the ‘work’ so they have all the details to set it up. I will ring him tomorrow to make sure he has received the email and responded.
I had connected an Ethernet lead to the previous inverter which was a Theia. The Theia was much better for the end user to use as you just plug it in and it works however I do realise why the SolarEdge is a more complicated setup. All the installer had to do was remove the Ethernet lead from the Theia and plug it into the SE inverter. I originally installed the Ethernet lead to the Theia as that was just left without any connection. The router is right next to the inverter so all I needed was the lead.
As for why the installer hasn’t registered it then your guess is as good as mine and you probably have the right answer!
If I don’t get it setup in the next few days then I will take you up on your kind offer.

Thanks to a kind memeber of SolarEdge staff who monitors this forum I have now got access. It isn't working properly yet as the panel layout isn't showing correctly and the four buttons [FONT=&]chart, report, alert and admin to the right of the dashboard and layout buttons are not showing. Hopefully they will get this sorted soon.

Well it is all set up correctly now, well almost. The only thing they need to do is put the correct FIT payment in as they seem to have set it at about £ 0.086 per Kwh. It appears that I cannot set the tariff myself and that I need to contact them when it changes which seems strange. I now have the buttons chart, report and alert. Apparently the admin button is only for SolarEdge employees and company managers, I don't know if the admin button would allow me to change the tariff myself but it is no big deal.
It is interesting to look at the charts and identify the panels that are shaded to see the difference it makes. As we still have scaffolding up it is also surprising the impact just one vertical scaffold pole has even if it only shades halfway up the panel.
Anyhow I think my problems are nearly sorted now so once again thank you to everyone who has helped.

dansk, I am sure someone else will be along to confirm if I am right but my understanding is that you should have an account from which you can monitor all your installs. This account would have all the buttons. Your clients generally just get the two buttons. If you haven't got all the buttons at your fingertips then you can not properly track individual panel performance and problems.
I may be wrong on the above but that is my current understanding of how it works.

Just to keep you up to date on my failed five month SolarEdge 4kW system, is still down.
As we discussed disconnecting the DC from the inverter gave 16.9V. The new control PCB was fitted yesterday but after pairing we got P ok 14/14 for my 16 panel system and only 1.6V DC and of course no output. According to the monitoring portal, panel 14 last communicated May 1st and panel 11 last communicated May 3rd. which more or less coincides with the two failures.
Because there appears to be 16.9V on the string the SE4000 inverter was replaced today with a new one. Sadly we still get 14/14 and 1.6V DC and no output.
It may be possible to reach panels 11 and 14 from the ridge to change the boxes if it ever stops raining. Failing that its up with the scaffold and change the boxes. Unfortunately I have a conservatory across the back of the house so they will need an eight meter scaffold bridge. It's not going to be cheap or quick.

This is just a thought, is it not possible to put these boxes in the loft, in a neat line under each panel, then should you get any problems in the future you can just pop up into the loft.
Was the a reading of 16v on the postive and negtive from the string if so evertything outside is ok

The monitoring portal shows 1V optimiser volts on every panel except 14 which has 20.75V ?????
I still think the string is the problem. My money is on a high resistance connection, so you can see the correct voltage but can't draw any current. When pairing the voltage rises to 5V then collapses on the inverter display.
The monitoring portal giving panel 14 as 20.75V is a bit odd though.

Just to be clear, when the optimisers are not registered to the inverter they should each ouput 1v. When they are registered, then they will output anything from 0v to 60v depending on what the panel is generating and what all the other optimisers in the system are doing. They work together to give a string voltage of around 340v. Have you gone through the registration procedure on the new inverter?

But the question I would love answerd is this, how much current can you see on a meter. Using a digital meter which is probably 10 megohm or more, draws no current so you could have a high resistance string of thousands of ohms and it won't alter the 16.9V reading. But if you check for current what would you expect to see?

but the if one one disconnected then you would not have that one volt reading !!!!!
I wonder if the installer as pluged a power box into another power box where the panel was ment to go then pluged a panel to a panel ???

I'm not sure it makes sense to see a current reading when the optimisers are not talking to the inverter. The whole point of them dropping to 1v is that they effectively switch off the panels in the event of a failure. I'd be surprised if they would supply much current at all in that mode.

The reason I was thinking of measuring the current was to try and establish if the string had gone high resistance for any reason, as I can't think of any other cause. Surely if pairing the inverter can find only 14 of sixteen panels and sits there showing 1.6V DC there has to be a problem with the string.
There is no power being produced at all the inverter only see's 1.6V. I think the 16V collapses when the inverter try's to work due to high resistance on the string.
Don't worry scaffolding coming next week and I will be able to give you the answer.

Bit of a mystery I agree. The scaffold should be going up in the next few days and I hope to go up and have a look when they go up to find the fault. I will then post the results of what is found. I still think it is a high resistance connection unless water has got in somewhere. We will see.

New monitoring portal update???
Got to love this portal. My panel 14 which appeared to be faulty for two weeks, having not communicated since 01/05/2012 is now panel 9 and panel 11 which last communicated 03/05/2012 is now panel 10.
Forget musical chairs we now have musical panels with this latest monitoring portal update.
How on earth are you supposed to fault find when the panel numbers keep changing?
At least panel 14 is looking good now, shame about panel 9, F*********K.

Maybe I should be pleased with the new monitoring portal update. The old portal just showed one long string with panels 11 and 14 not working and system shut down.
The new updated version shows the panel layout as two rows of eight which it is, and with the top row 1-8 and the bottom row 9-16. However, it also shows panels 9 and 10 as being faulty now and 11 and 14 as ok. although the faulty panels have the same serial numbers.
The faulty panels were indeed 9 and 10 why the old portal said 11 and 14 is a mystery.
So today my installer returned to replace the two power boxes that had not communicated since May1st and 3rd. These were swapped out for new ones which I noted were rated at 400W each and not 250W like the old ones. And ten minutes later I had a working system again after nearly three weeks.
So thanks to everyone that commented on my problems. The 16.9 volts read by a meter from the roof boxes was miss leading as the inverter only read 1.6V and failed too function. With the two new boxes fitted the voltage went up to 17.1V on the inverter and the system worked after pairing. For information the two boxes that failed were the first two from the positive tail to the inverter, not that should make any difference.
My installer did say that they had a few failed SolarEdge power boxes normally within the first six months to a year. They have fitted thousands of SolarEdge boxes and were not surprised that a few had failed. I guess once they have been up there for a year they should have been through a complete cycle of hot, cold, frozen, min and max load etc.

The installers connected a ZigBee to the inverter with the X2 box downstairs connected to my Virgin SuperHub. Ihave logged onto the hub and ensured that the ethernet switch is a trusted device and not blocked. I have an S on the inverter in the comms window.
The receiver unit is plugged into my Hub via the ethernet cable and I am getting a flashing Green light Tx-Rx and every few seconds the Signal Strength indicates 2 - 3 lights.The Ethernet port on the X2 has a yellow light and a flashing green after the signal strength lights go on.
On the computer with the disc in I click the Digi Device Discovery and am shown IP Address 192.168.0.5 with the correct Mac Address as specified in the paperwork.

I dad problems speaking to people but found a very useful number that might be of use. 08002061058, I have used it several times and get through very quickly. I spoke to someone called [FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif][FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif][FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif][FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Zohar. Might be worth calling and telling him that your problem is similar to mine. Trouble is they keep suggesting turning off the AC and pulling the power to the X2 box then turning it all back on. Trouble is my Inverter is in the loft and not exactly easy to get at.
