Do you know if split metering for separate power and lighting can be supplied for small 4 or 6 way consumer units. I am looking at a job that has a large number rooms and the client wants split metering for the power and lighting. I had proposed installing a small CU in each room.

A large dis board on each floor with separate meters for power and lighting could be fitted and then each room is fed with its own power and lighting circuits, however this would mean very long runs for the final circuits, hence my proposal for installing CU in each room.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Brightspark- Can you get meters that are built into or can be fitted IN the consumer units. There will be one lighting and possibly 2 power circuits per room, and I have proposed a consumer unit for each room (As you often see in hotles, care homes etc) as a distribution board installed at one end of the corridor would entail excessive runs for the power and lighting circuits. The client wants the power and lighting to be separately metered. I know that split meter boards are available for 24way single phase boards from Schneider (12 for lighting, 12 for power) but I need a 4 or 6 way board max and wasnt sure if you could get integral meters for these????

You can get them pre installed but ive only seen them on larger consumer units and dist boards...but thats not to say there not available...

Your other option is get din rail mounted meters and make your own consumer unit up either with a empty consumer unit or an enclosure. I know Hager do quite a big range of enclosures with din rail in that come in all different shapes and sizes...the din rail mounted meters are about 3-4 modules wide...so about 3-4 MCBs...

If you wanted different circuits metered within the cosumer unit then get a 2 or 3 tier enclosure with MCBs on one level and meters on the next tier...

The possibilities are endless my friend...

Cheers, thats an option, will need to look into the variations of cost of making up CU up as I can only find the pre installed ones on larger dist boards like you say. It may be just as worthwhile having long runs for the final circuits from a large dist board located at the end of the corridor.

Possibly, but if external, it would take up space, look unsightly unless in a cupboard and would require two. one for power and one for lighting.
