That's the way I read it. They might clarify exactly what that means... maybe...? But I'm not holding my breath.

I heard it as, if I can’t do that work from home I can go out and do it?
Depends how crucial (for ability to go about daily life) the work is; changing a light fitting for missus muggins because she's got a shiny new B&Q POS...not crucial - source of income sure.

Going to Mr Wallace who reports no power; attempt to troubleshoot over the phone (have you turned it off and on again) and if needed go as without power they have no cold food storage, no means of cooking (if elec cooker)

I'd make judgement calls about every job, and if I can't do the job right now (as the client agrees), get a deposit for the work and agree to do when this all blows over.

He should have stated key workers only. Ive booked the rest of the week as a holiday but I think all sites will close tomorrow.
Dark days but necessary.
new job starts tomorrow, home schooling my 6 year old lad:oops:

It boils down to what is deemed “necessary” work.
Health professional, chemist, food shops etc yes....
Delivery drivers who serve these categories. Yes.

Electricians with pre booked jobs, in peoples houses, that aren’t that important whether the job is done tomorrow, next week, next month?
Probably not.

I took it as, if you can’t work from home then travelling to and from work is acceptable.

The problem lies with him closing all non essential stores, electrical wholesalers are bound to shut, so unless you’ve got masses of stock, you can’t do much anyway.

I have job tomorrow finishing a cock up where I told the customer that pyro was to be put in when joiners put the new shed in ,where the old shed was pulled down and left the pyro on the floor and damaged , run around like a idiot trying find pyro gear .have the new shed built to put a elec /wheel chair in for charging .I will be going .

I’m not sure he said anything about crucial or only key workers can go to work just that you can leave the house for
Exercise once a day
Essential food
Medicine
Care for a vulnerable person
And work IF you can’t do it from home....I’m fairly sure I can’t change missus muggins lamp from home ?....untill he pays my wages and unless I’m ill work it is I’m afraid....

Are we key workers? Problem is I travel to 4 jobs a day sometimes, does that still count as to and from work? He needs to step up and make it clear that statement hasnt cleared up anything except to limit my already extremely limited exercise. But I can live with that.

Hardware stores to stay open, does that include the wholesalers do you think?
Building sites to stay open says "the sun" for what thats worth

It means....is it necessary that you go to work....yes.....can I work from home.....no....... pretty clear to me
Not what it means at all. It is only necessary that you go to work if you are listed as a key or critical worker. So if you can’t work from home then you don’t work simple as that. An exception would be for a call out were someone has a power outage or suchlike but not to do routine works. The more people that go out unnecessarily the longer this will go on.

Key worker .....

Remember, trade counters are not considered shops.
They are there for business to business trade, not the same as shopping for a new blouse.

Sparks and gas/plumbers would come under key workers by virtue of what they do (an extension of utilities, simply put) without them no lighting, heating and water

It is easy; your skillset is essential, the types of job you attend aren't always essential (see example above) so it is down to you to be making those judgement calls on the jobs you attend

I read it as all work stops unless essential (to health , safety etc)
I am going to a site i work at tomorrow to close it all down, set alarms to Police response
Not expecting to go back for months :-(

Not really as simple as that is it @Sintra.....kids need feeding bills need paying.....and there’s no simple advice for self employed people...universal credit is not a solution people have already starved to death waiting for that...

To me it doesnt seem clear either, much like most of us I havnt ( yet ) gained the ability to install a customers new socket from home. Or indeed fix a fault with, for instance a customer with a no power who may have new born baby. So I can still go to work, but is going round to see a customer for a non essential job ok? I'm confused, but i know I need to earn money and also dont want to be part of the bigger problem...

Top left corner HM government
No, I mean I know it says HM Government in the screen shot, I mean who tweeted it, which account?

(I'm not arguing either way on the interpretation of the advice, I'm just interested in the sources. The PDF I linked to is from .gov.uk )

The kids will get fed and the roofs will stay over our heads. HMG will be making it much easier for folk to get uc payments and or housing benefits. The key to a quick resolution to this crisis is to abide by the rules and then hopefully sooner rather than later it will be behind us.

So HM twitter account showing a vid saying key worker, but other HM web sites saying go to work if you absolutely can't do it from home, so they don't know themselves.
