Hi guys,

Im installing a main switch after a recent PIR picked up it needed one.

Should i still be completing a electrical installation cert?

and if so should i be testing and including every circuit of every board (5 in total)?

I would say a MWC is appropriate. You are not installing a new circuit. I suppose you could also carry out another EICR after the remedial work is completed and in the reason for test box put - condition of installation in order to reconnect supply. Or simply take a sample of tests and compare to the previous EICR in order to ascertain it's accuracy.

A like for like Main Switch replacement.... I would ensure it was sound but the only paperwork they would get from me would be my invoice! Anything more would be over the top IMO.

agree with T J. better things to do than filling in unnecessary paper.

The DNO wouldn't give you bugger all if they fitted the main switch so you could isolate the supply with out pulling the main fuse.

This my understanding of how to choose which Certificate to use:
New circuit = EIC.
Multiple circuits = EIC.
Alteration to a single circuit = MEIWC.
As this is an alteration to a single circuit, then I would opt for a MEIWC.

agreed but because you are disconnecting the whole supply do you think it might be prudent to test the complete installation to ensure it is safe to turn back on?

Or overkill central?

Is it an alteration to a circuit? Are the tails a circuit in their own right or are they just cables linking an installation to the point of supply?
