What is this box?

Hi,

This box was in attached to the wall in our flat. We have taken it off and behind was a protruding wire next to several screws. Can someone please tell us what this is and what it is or was used for.

Was it next to a door, may have been the connection to a door switch.

I can’t really tell what sort of cable that is from your photo.
maybe an unused joint box for telephone or coax (tv)?
