once had a philips 2000 VCR. them and betamax were stuffed by thorn who made vhs under the brand name ferguson and others. they also owned a large proportion of the retail and rental outlets and so killed off the competition's superior quality machines all for the sake of their corporate profits.
Betamax was defo the better machine , I was working in the old Leccy boards showrooms around the time , and the prices of these machines was unbelievable when you see what they cost towards the end , I had the Phillips top loader video , it was the top of the range with ferguson as you say as well, all those video rental shops came and went quickly too...
I used to help my step brother fix the old tellys before that in the 70s , he bought ex rental redifusion tvs and repaired and sold them , they mainly were the old B/W tvs with the 405/625 lines with all the old valves and wooden cabinets ....
