help please guys / girls.
I am rewiring my house and want to include a system so that I can watch movies / listen to music in any room from a central computer or harddrive and also create mood lighting.
How would I wire for this ?
I have attempted this and would like some help before I plaster.
each media point has 3 x cat5e going to a central point ( hub )
each media point has 3 x coax going to loft
10 x coax between loft and central point ( hub )
4 core speaker cable from each room via single backbox next to light switch to hub
cat5e cable from each light switch to hub
cctv cables from external points to hub
each light switch is wired seperatly in 3 core back to hub
hub is to house all mains / consumer unit and telephone incomer aswell as all data/cat5 and 10 x coax.

Does this sound like overkill or have I missed something?

Are you talking about streaming media (DLNA) or something?

A bit more clarification might help.

HDMI being some new-fangled thing that won't fit in any of your gear, so you have to bin it all and buy new stuff.just so the manufactured pop music "bands" sound even crappier. worse than bloody car manufacturers.

never bough a new telly in my life. my dad bought one in 1973. a decca with valves for the line output stage. kept the living room warm as well.

once had a philips 2000 VCR. them and betamax were stuffed by thorn who made vhs under the brand name ferguson and others. they also owned a large proportion of the retail and rental outlets and so killed off the competition's superior quality machines all for the sake of their corporate profits.

I had no probs with it, recorded well and a wide selection of films to hire. Possibly in the 80's. Was bulky compared to todays machines!

35 years was just 1980 I reckon lol was not mine though, the old man bought it with a top of range telly off someone who came down from North with them. The pair were worth about ÂŁ1,200 all them years ago, he paid about a monkey I think.

All those buildings used to exist in Enfield, Brimsdown all them years ago and I worked in a few doing my time using conduit, trunking, tray, micc, swa etc

Betamax was defo the better machine , I was working in the old Leccy boards showrooms around the time , and the prices of these machines was unbelievable when you see what they cost towards the end , I had the Phillips top loader video , it was the top of the range with ferguson as you say as well, all those video rental shops came and went quickly too...

I used to help my step brother fix the old tellys before that in the 70s , he bought ex rental redifusion tvs and repaired and sold them , they mainly were the old B/W tvs with the 405/625 lines with all the old valves and wooden cabinets ....

why is a dualport card necessary and what is an unmanaged switch ?
input and output on diy router.

Unmanaged switches are basic plug-and-play switches with no remote configuration, management, or monitoring options, although many can be locally monitored and configured via LED indicators and DIP switches

bassically an unmanaged switch lets you connect 10 devices to 1 ethernet port.

for example 1x 10gb port incoming from server to 4-20 devices with no need to configure the switch.

10gb ports wont be used for a long time for regular users, 1gbps internet is the fastest on earth comercially available.

besides no websites will allocate that amount of resources to one user

Have a look on the AV forums site there is a wealth of info and advice there. I went down the HDMI matrix route in my house and never looked back it's a great bit of kit but at ÂŁ1700 it is a little expensive..

Essentially a central hub far all audio and video my one does 3 beds, dining and living room and also my garage for when it gets converted into a home cinema. It saves having blu ray players and sky boxes in all rooms they are all in the central hub. (under stairs cupboard)

much cheaper to set up a hpc server.

it can stream all your music etc to all your devices over Ethernet etc.

use anydvdhd then copy your blu-rays to your server and then you can stream to all your devices through your router.

if your careful with the parts you choice it wont need fans so it will be silent as well
