Just wondering if anyone has any tips for getting power to a conservatory. There is a Double socket on the wall which backs onto the conservatory. Would you fit a fused spur to down rate the lights but thinking that would look a bit naff.

What has anyone else done for a conservatory.?

How many sockets, lighting etc

FCU for lights is the usual . however, if you are spurring off an existing socket, you;ll need a 13A FCU for your sockets and a 5A FCU for the lights. have you asked what the customer wants. he may want ony 2 sockets or he may require 10.

Split the ring circuit leave one leg in existing socket and put the other into the new socket and a link bettween the two. And put a spur in with a 5amp fuse for the lighting.

Just two double sockets but they may want to put an electric heater in which will prob use up to approx 10amps but they don't know. If they did may need its own circuit. However what else would someone plug in a conservatory; maybe a heater, phone charger, table lamp. All of that plugged in prob won't pop a 13 amp cartridge fuse.

Cheers guys. Splitting the ring is an idea but then would need to either change existing double socket to two singles or join the ring in the back of the socket which I do not want to do.

FCu for lights and why not extend the ring now here's one in the past I've always put cables for conservatory in the cavity as not really any were else to put them and I'm sure ill get slagged off for doing so but I'm sure other sparks have done the same your thoughts

if you are able to split the ring, it's the better way. replace the back box with a 35mm one and joint cables in box using crimps. then you won't have to worry about popping a 13A fuse.

As above or round conduit right out in the open (don't hide it), if walls are white use white.

if done neatly its suprising how 'ok' it looks.

You'll be amazed sometimes how un-observant some people are, did one once and had to point out what I'd done. He thought it was always like that (with white condo all the way round).

personally I dont like it and would just plan the project properly!!

Hiya farmelectrics ... yeah all I meant was as Guitarist says, if it's boarded but I guess I'm living in a dreamworld there .....no good if not boarded and plastered!!!

In which case I'd prefer the galv conduit look
