Discuss Wiring a PIR lightswitch in the Industrial Electricians' Talk area at ElectriciansForums.net

I have been asked to install a PIR lightswitch at the bottom of a staircase in a customers home so that the bottom light comes on upon entering the property. However the bottom switch is a 2 gang with 1 way for the bottom and 2 way for the upstairs light. All the PIR switches I see tend to be just 2 terminaled (No Neutral) to replace a standard switch, does anyone know of a product that has PIR for 1 gang 1 way and a second 2 way switched gang.

Or any ideas for installation?

Thanks

could you install the PIR next to the existing 2 way light switch and run a parallel feed from the Live/Switched Live into this, off the top of my head this would keep both switches in service and supply the PIR

this is provided the switch live is run to the switch where you want to install the PIR, alternatively, if you parallel from the strapper only switch across the two strappers so that when the PIR switches it effectively shorts the switch and turns the light on whatever the switch position.

replace 2 gang switch for single gang 2 way and add pir switch next to it and hopefully cable can be re-routed

you could add a ceiling mounted pir and run common from light fitting above and switch back to fitting, you could even leave the existing switch so that the pir circuit can be de-energised if required
