My friend is building a house and his 3 phase metre is about 60m across a field.
I was wondering could i just take out the metres and put in a 3 phase 80amp isolator and run a 25mm 4 core SWA cable from there to the new location?
Could any one suggest anything easier, or cheaper?

Thats a long way. Are you sure the 25mm cable is suitable for the intended load?.
I would contact the supplier and get a price to have it shifted. With the price of cable, plant hire to dig it in etc, it may well be cheaper, it will certainly be safer.

Sorry forgot to add. if you dont bury it, it will be gone with the pikeys in no time, they will get half a roadworthy transit van for the value of that cable.

Cheers.............Howard

No you can’t take out the meter and move it. Leave the meter where it is and install a 100A fused switch (you can down rate the fuse), definitely not an isolator and then your cable.

Move it and your going to get jumped on with great big hobnail boots. The courts aren’t going to be over impressed.

I’m sorry I’ve got this silly vision of the meter reader thinking the meter wasn’t there last time I was here.

Well the problem is he is building a house on some land and the metre is actually 108 metres away on someone elses property, and the metres don't currently belong to any LEB, so he has no one to call to move it. So does this mean they can be moved?

They can be moved mate. Just not by you. They will belong to someone and that someone aint going to like you fiddling with their toys

There'll be an identifying number on them and there a sticky on here somewhere that will help you trace who they belong to. Sorry but I can't remember what it was called

Any of the energy suppliers can trace the MPAN if you quote them the whole meter ID number and the post code.

Also, do you actually need a 3ph system on a house build? It would be cheaper to get a whole new supply put in and probably a much cheaper 1ph would suffice.

Oh, and you probably won't satisfy your voltage drop requirements with that size of cable over that length, btw.

as a temp measure could you leave the meter where it is and when the house is built,
When the house is complete relocate the meter and use a resin joint kit.
can the cable be isolated for when the meter is relocated?
if it can't get a cable jointer to make the joint

I don’t know how many other cable jointers there are on here. But I’ll tell you now I’m not getting involved!

The lecy board’s got deeper pockets than me.

Will have a look for code on it.

Yes he needs 3 phase for machinery in garage.

I know it's money NOT going in your pocket, but you'll find the DNO's will charge less for a whole entire incomer move than you could even buy the cable for to extend it, plus have no worries about Vd and also probably get a better Ze out of the deal, too.
