When I did the practical, there were three different mock-up boards. One one you had to do all the standard tests, on the second you had to do the visual, and on the third they would tell you that there were 12 faults and you had to list them all. some of the less obvious ones were bend radius of cables, using one clip for two flat cables side by side, that sort of thing.
In the written exam, they might ask why the value of PSCC is important when selecting a protective device
what is the breaking capacity of a 3036 fuse, and what a ring continuity test can actually tell you about the circuit itself apart from R1+R2.
A lot of us found that we already knew the answers but had forgotten them over time and this was a handy refresher.
hope this helps
Have you any biscuits to go with my tea? Is that motorbike a ktm? my assessor was very laid back and the worrying i did for weeks before was for no reason, he just asked things about the regs which you could look in the book for, what do you check for before you alter a circuit or add a circuit just things like that, he's not looking to catch you out but just wants to know you're competentcan any one give me sum examples of the king of questions they will ask me.???

Did you put a switch fuse at the start of the tails?the job i am showing him is a flat re wire so not really any long cable runs. yes but there must be a point at witch they fail you. would they ask for tail lenghts that i brought feed into CU from down stairs
Is it fused, smaller than the main fuse?yes it can all be isolated
Is it fused, smaller than the main fuse?
Yes I think its on a 80a isolting fuse. Main fuse may be 100 not 100@er cent sure?
yes there it a point at which they become concerned, anything that shows a serious failing in understanding rather than just an oversight.
In a domestic property I was asked to measure the distance between the floor and the skirt of the battenholder to confirm it was in zone 2. i was also asked to take the cover off the fan to prove it had a suitable IP rating for zone 1. My assessor was concerned that i was adding R1+R2 to Ze to Get Zs, Where as my course tutor said this was ok. So alot of the depth of the assessment will depend upon the temperement of the guy who visits.
For a flat rewire I would likely guess that you would get asked what circuits you had used, what methods of basic, fault and additional protection you have used, extraction rates if there is a fan, have you made good any fire barriers with regards to downlights, cable routes etc, your main bonding, if you used 10mm on a TN-S system you might get asked why you chose 10mm when you might have been able to use 6mm.
You will be asked to do a sample test which could be anything from RCD to ring continuity and there will be a few test questions.
It doesn't sound as though you have anything to worry about. When is your assessment?
Hi James, did you inquire as to tails csa with distributor? As I would of used 25mm csa. When you say fuse on tails, do you mean main switch or distribution co isolator? Just interested. I had this conversation on this site a few days ago about keeping the assessment simple, as I'm just going for a notifiable garden rcd protected socket and a non-notifiable new pir light and thats it. So I think your brave going for a full re-wire.
