Philips was the only entrant for the competition and its design underwent 18 months of testing before being declared a winner.

Dosent say what prize was up for grabs in the competition.
But anything's gota be better than CFL's

A future lit by LEDs sounds nice. Especially in the case of street lights (iirc all prototype designs mimic a full moon night and adjust to dim/switch off when there is ample moon light), I hate that sodium yellow light :icon13:

Recently changed a whole car park of sodium lamp posts to new LEDs gone from 150w to 26w nice bright white light mind you they cost 550 pound each glad it wasn't my money

I propose that before public bodies start buying these,
they should conduct a survey to find out if they last as long as stated.

yep, 20 years is about right for any public authority's survey/think tank to come up witha simple answer.
