Hi all, so my in ground patio lights keep tripping the RCD. I checked them over and found dampness in most of the buried underground three way junction boxes. On inspection I have found this is not the only issue. There are 10No. Lights in total and although when the fittings themselves are...
Hi just looking peoples thoughts on this one. I went to check out a 3 channel hortsmann time clock. I found it to be faulty as the display came and went. It’s about 12 years old and apparently when the internal battery fails it time to change the clock as you can’t access the battery.
Anyway, I...
How accurate would the reading be? Want to do a quick test before the supply company comes to connect up. Don't have a proper earth rod tester but do have an Eli tester.
Hi I've installed a 12v ac relay but the 12v supply won't pull the relay coil in. It gets it signal from a disabled alarm kit. Multimeter shows a healthy 12v when alarm is activated but relay won't energise. Tried a couple of different relays but no joy. ????
Hi. I've got a high earth leakage value on a main db supplying many 3phase cables. What's the best way to find the leakage values on each cable? Some of them can't be turned off. If I clamp around all 4 live conductors as they enter the db would this give me the earth leakage?
Just wondering what's the best way to go about it? Do you try and gain extra length from the attic, ferrul the cables or terminate into a junction box and lengthen from there?
What tripping time should I expect to be acceptable when doing a ramp test on both 30ma and 100ma rcds. I mean is 70ma tripping time on a 100ma rcd too sensitive?
Hi all. Can anyone tell me if it is acceptable to bond the gas pipe outside of the house rather than just after it enters? The problem is I have to bond a gas pipe- it was noted on a recent pir that it wasn't done, problem is it enters the house through the roof space of a two storey house...
Got a spark to do a pir on a house I'm putting up for rent. A few of his codes has surprised me. No rcds protecting the fuse boards is down as a code 1. Now the shower is on an rcd on it's own but the installation was wired o the 16th ed so surely code 1 is a bit ott? It's a tncs system
Hi using a megger 1552 to do a few earth loops in a house. It's on the no trip function but still the rcd trips. Never had this before as usually the rcd holds out long enough to get the required reading for the earth loop imp. It's a tt system and the rcd ( 30 ma) is relatively new. Any thoughts?
Hi. Pulling my hair out with this one. I'll try and keep it simple. Recently I've moved into a new house which has eleven telephone points dotted around in different rooms. They are wired from the master via two radial circuits, one serving each side of the house. The wiring appears to be a mix...
......Set at 500ma. Now this supplies several dist boards serving quite a few circuits. My question is do I install individual rcds set at 30ma at every board or to reduce incovenience when a circuit trips do I put all circuits on rcbo's( think of the expense of over 100 circuits). A lot of...
Hi can anyone tell me why my intruder alarm external siren keeps sounding when I turn the power off in my house? Surely this shouldn't happen ? Cheers.
A three phase kitchen appliance is rated at 7.5kw. Now is this in total over the three phases or per phase? If over 3 phases then I guess that's 2.5kw per phase or 10.8amps per phase. The more I think about it the more I think it's over three phases.
Would someone please remind me how I can do this again? I know if I clamp the neutral only it will give me a reading stating how out of balance the phases are but do I clamp neutral and earth together at the same time to obtain earth leakage current?
Have 15 of these to do in a patio external obviously. It's actually brick paving. I need to core a hole approx 100mm per light. My problem is I just don't know what the best way to terminate would be. Of course I'll need some sort of ip rated jb for each light but where should this go? Down...
Hi I was asked to check out a shower in a hair dressers which was tripping out the fuse. Soon found out it was a 9.5 kw shower protected by a 30a fuse. Problem solved. However decided to experiment with my new clamp meter an found when the shower was turned to the highest setting(power of water...
