Hi Everyone,
I have noticed that in the past three houses that I have lived in there are always dodgy electrics.
In my bedroom there was a humming sound that always came from the ceiling rose but until now I assumed it was the dimmer switch. So today I changed the switch to a standard one (on...
Hi, my father in law has had an electrician round whilst an extension was being built, the guy carried out the installatons of the final circuits for lighting and power and also placed a consumer unit in the extension which was a "temporary fix" whilst works were being carried out and has since...
I was recommended to a nice old lady to change some old brass wall and ceiling lights and fit a couple of outside PIR fittings.
She moved into her bungalow roughly two years ago and had a consumer unit upgrade and some other bits done then [This by a NICEIC approved contractor]
As soon as I...

Had a phone call from a regular customer telling me the builder who's doing her extension said there is no grommets on the existing sockets (which we fitted re wiring the place 18 months ago).
At first I thought there's no way we hadn't put grommets on but further through the day I started to...
Hi,
Scenario:
Electric meter and fuse box (no consumer unit) in Flat 1 basement. We own Flat 2 (on the first floor) and have no access to Flat 1.
Our proposed solution: We would like to install a modern consumer unit off the meter and have that located in the communal area of the flats...
Good evening all,

I'm currently working in Bournemouth upgrading a load of displays in bus shelters and the company who owns them have asked me to provide certs for our connections.

Went to move a heater at a house I rewired last year and noticed they'd had pv panels fitted on the roof of their house and the roof of their holiday let. I had a look at the install inside and found this. The RCD 2 way board is fed from a circuit in a dual RCD d.b. This is all I took pictures...
Been to look at an extension earlier and told by the client on arrival it's already been wired by someone else but he's been taken ill , the extension is very large and the first fix looks very rough I'm not sure I want to put my name against it just incase as some walls have been boarded ...

I have two 8 panel strings laid flat on a flat roof connected to a Power One inverter. One of the strings is showing a RISO of 0.5 mohm or less. The cables and connectors are all dry and intact, so I think is is a faulty panel. The voltage test doesn't identify the actual panel.
If I take off...
I think we have installed a dodgy BS6724 4 x 150mm SWA cable.
This cable was purchased through a national wholesaler but appears to be of a poor quality noticably the outer insulation. Problem is it was delivered to site on Friday evening, lifted onto the roof yesterday morning and installed...
Hey fella's, I was called to a property this week to replace the CU and issue certification for the job. The home owner had only just purchased the place so I asked if he had the condition report, to which he did.
After examining the report, starting my schedule of inspections and throughout...

Hi guys, I have a mate who's shower switch was overheating and could smell burning from it, I opened it up to find the red cable from the load was totally black and I checked connections and they were solid, I knew straight away what the problem was as the shower was only wired in 6mm, turns out...
