Can anyone tell me what the difference is between 2 plate and 3 plate wiring for a 2 way lighting circuit.I was wiring a 2 way lighting circuit in single core cables.Looped in and out at the light, took switch line up to light, started to pull strappers in,and the bloke i was working with said you can wire it in 2 plate.Remember doing it 20 years ago,but can't remember how it was done.Watched how he did it,but it didn't look right.:confused:

hi 3 plate ie ceiling rose
are you talking about the methods for 2 way ie switch line from rose 3 core + earth to 2 way switch
or
conduit line to 1 switch return from 2nd switch 2 cores between switches
or
have i just lost the plot

Agree with Mark,

2 plate - circuits at the switches
3 plate - loop in at the rose

Guys
an old hand here. My understanding of a three plate wiring system was the old junction box method of wiring where you saw only the switch wire and neutral plus cpc at the rose. Four plate tends to be the norm now ie loop in wiring feed and neutral to each fitting in turn with addition of feed and switch wire. It has nothing to do with one or two way switching which still seems to cause a lot of confusion. I have found a great schematic which will help anyone to understand converting single pole sw to two way . Hope this helps
